Going in for a fourth firing, let's add some ✨️shine✨️! Check out my previous reel where I added color after bisque firing. 2nd firing is a normal glaze run, third firing adds the gold, and fourth adds the final touch.

I've just started using gold and other lacquers recently with my work. A few things to note - working with this stuff requires appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment). You can't see it, but I'm wearing a respirator rated for OV/AG P100 to protect against the lacquer fumes. What I'm missing in this video are some gloves to keep my hands clean. I'll admit, I ran out and was too impatient to wait for my restock to arrive. Don't be like me, wear gloves, and always wash your hands!

I really love how the mother of pearl came out, but I think next time I'll do a dark glaze or bright color on the inside of the cup.

I missed recording a few steps, but this is most of the process. After glazing the carved bits on the inside, I wipe off the glaze so that only the blues are left in the carved bits. Then then white glaze goes on top. The color really pops in the sun 🌞 versus in the shadow of a kiln.
